Store Closing Details
Hello Dear Friends,
After much consideration, I've made the difficult (and heart wrenching) decision to close my gallery at Greenbank Farm on Whidbey Island. At the end of May, I will be clearing out the space and making it available for the next tenant.
I opened the gallery to create a beautiful store and a place I could sell artwork and products I made. I wanted it to be a lifestyle business that supported my creativity and allowed me to showcase a wide variety of my artistic interests.
Last year I moved into a larger space with more visibility and the gallery grew to have multiple employees. I've been incredibly lucky and fortunate to have accomplished so much in a short four years. As the gallery grew, it took more and more of my time to manage all the aspects of the business. I was running a gallery instead of being in my studio doing what I loved to do.
Then, this year, sales are down almost 50% compared to last year. My sense is that sales are going to drop even further. The gallery location is very rural and relies heavily on local and international tourism. I have not seen numbers this dismal in the four years I've been open. This, with the almost certain coming recession, means it's time for me to close this chapter and start a new one.
I don't know what that means just yet. After the gallery closes and after I get some rest, I will figure out what's next. I do know that my creativity and my artwork will continue on in some fashion.
I want to thank all of you for your support. It has been an honor to meet you, an honor to have you in the gallery and an honor to be part of this community. I will keep the fond memories of everything I loved about owning this business. I treasure the reactions folks had as they walked into the gallery and gasped at the bright colors and feeling of joy. I will miss my wonderful staff and want to thank them for all their work and for helping making the gallery such a special place to be.
I am also downsizing my studio and will have loads of art making materials available at the gallery in the coming weeks. Christmas ornaments will come out of storage, tress, lights, and furniture will all be for sale. Store wide markdowns will begin on April 17th and continue through the third week of May. They will only be available in person as managing the website inventory through this is next to impossible. If you have had your eye on something, now is the time to get it before it's gone. Everything must go by the end of May.
Please share this with your community, friends, and family.
Thanks again for being part of my gallery family,
Take care,
Becca
